FAQ's we LOVE to answer
Q: Where are you located?
On the Windward (eastern) side of O’ahu, in Kailua! O’ahu is not the Big Island… but we are the island with Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, and Diamond Head.
Q: What should I WEAR? How many outfit changes do I get?
My first answer is this: Wear whatever you feel most beautiful and comfortable in! You are Free to Be You! Having fun always creates the best look.
My second answer: I recommend bright colors and bold prints, especially when our backdrop is the gorgeous state of Hawai’i. Wear something that will really POP against that ocean or mountain background! I recommend staying away from white-shirts-khaki-pants and printed logos or t-shirts.
Feel free to do as many outfit changes as you can fit into our 60-minute session.
Q: What should I BRING to my portrait session?
Is there a certain prop that is special to you? If you play the ukulele, bring it! If you love starfish and seashells, bring some along! Props aren’t a requirement, but they can definitely spice up our shoot! For ideas, feel free to contact me.
For Senior Portrait sessions, props are encouraged & celebrated! Girls, bring your glitter and heels! Guys, brings your guitar and surfboard!
Q: How do you get kids to look at you and smile?
I have a few tricks up my sleeve! However, it is always helpful to bring a child’s favorite toy or a reward for doing well; this well help keep them motivated! I love candid photographs of kids, and I think you will too. We don’t want every picture to be a cheesy-kid, mom-is-this-good smile, right?!
Q: What location should we choose for our portrait session?
On this beautiful island, there are so many to choose from! Choose a spot that you absolutely love. If you’re mountain people, let’s do that. If you’re ocean people, let’s go there. If you’re urban people, let’s hit downtown! If you need recommendations or are visiting, I can help you with ideas. Keep in mind that the time of day we schedule our session for plays a large part in what location you’ll choose. Because of lighting (see question below), we avoid midday sessions and instead rely on morning light and late afternoon light.
Q: What does it mean to be a "natural light photographer"?
It means that I depend on natural light for my photography sessions. I don’t provide a studio, and instead rely on the ambient light that is found outside. Because of this, there are certain times of day that are better than others when it comes to scheduling our portrait session. As seen above, we avoid midday sessions and try to schedule morning and late afternoon sessions. The location you choose also plays a factor into what time of day will be the most complimentary.
Q: What is your photography STYLE?
Boldly saturated colors with a photojournalistic touch. I love candid & life to the fullest. And since "eyes are a window into the soul", I especially try to enhance the beauty & vibrance of yours.
Q: What is a Print Release?
- Your personal print release basically gives you permission to get your photographs printed anywhere, at any time. It's proof that you did things "the right way" by including my agreement that all copyrighted photographs belong to me, but I've given you permission to print them.
Q: What time of day should we plan our portrait session for?
- That depends on the location you've chosen! I work with each individual client to find the exact right time of day for your session.
Q: What is the turnaround time for our photographs?
- Portrait sessions: I guarantee to get your digital images in the mail within three weeks of your session date.
- Weddings: Digital images will be on their way to you within three months.
Q: How can I BOOK a session with you?
- Let's talk! You can reach me by email, phone, or the "contact" gallery at the top of this page, and we can go from there. After setting a date, I ask that you send a $50 retainer fee (for portrait sessions) to save your date. This ensures that your date is YOURS and can be taken by no one else. The rest of the payment is due on the day of your session.
Q: What method of PAYMENT do you prefer?
- Cash or check works for me; one of these days we will advance to taking credit cards... stay tuned for that! (All checks should be made out to Liz Keizer Photography.)
Q: What’s in your gear bag?
- My beloved Canon 5D Mark III, Canon Rebel T1i, 85 mm 1.8, 50 mm 1.8, 24-105 mm, 18-55 mm, 55-250 mm, 580EX II flash
